The countdown has begun. The Aquatech (5-8 November) opens its doors in seven weeks as part of the Amsterdam International Water Week. As in previous years, the eye catching Holland Pavilion at the world's leading trade exhibition for water processing, drinking water and waste water, is organised by NWP, Water Alliance and ENVAQUA. One of the companies in the Holland Pavilion will be Van Remmen UV Technology. For founder and CEO Ton van Remmen, the Pavilion is the place to be.
Worries about water quality
“We have worked in the field of reliable and sustainable water disinfection using UV water treatment equipment for 20 years. We have the most efficient UV systems on the market on offer. We come from the Salland region in the Netherlands and I believe that we stand out because of our regional down-to-earth, practical determination. I mean this in a positive sense, and I will give you one example. We do not assume that water is disinfected simply by lighting the UV lamp. We do not take chances so we have designed a flow management system to check this and to make the entire process manageable and reliable.
Recently, problems of micro-contaminants, crop protection agents and medicine residues in surface water – an essential source for drinking water – has drawn much attention. A recent study by the research institute KWR on the quality of drinking water sources in the Netherlands shows that these sources are being significantly affected by traditional and new threats, such as microplastics, nanomaterials and antibiotics resistance.
Innovative solution at Aquatech
We will present AdvanoxTM with our partner Nouryon at Aquatech. This is an innovative solution that removes contaminants. It combines two techniques, hydrogen peroxide and UV, which together form a strong oxidiser. AdvanoxTM ‘burns’ the contaminants in the water. We are in the final phase of a major pilot with an urban waste water treatment plant in Sweden and the results are impressive.
We always used to have our own stand at Aquatech, but this year we are proud to be part of the Holland Pavilion for the third time. This is far better as the collaboration with other Dutch participants is a powerful branding tool for the Dutch water sector. We complement each other, and create a convincing united front. This attracts many visitors which leads to much more exposure compared to having your own separate stand. In addition, it is efficient, cost-effective and organised to perfection. Not only in the stand itself, but everything around it as well. And this year is extra special for us. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary and we will celebrate again during Aquatech.
More than just selling products
It is always difficult to anticipate the economic benefits that an exhibition brings. But we believe that it is an unmissable opportunity to put our company and our solutions in the spotlight. Aquatech and the AIWW are highly international and more than half our business comes from abroad. Most comes from Europe, as this is manageable for a company of about 20 people. But we also have customers in Australia and Vietnam, and more recently Ghana. So our activities are also increasing globally. They take water quality very seriously in Ghana, so I noticed when Ghanaian representatives visited us. Safe water is much scarcer there, which is why the Ghanaians are more aware of how important it is. In that respect we can learn a lot from them in Europe.
We have partners in various countries and we strive to work with them as sustainably as possible by keeping business as local as possible. We try, for instance, to have products assembled locally or components produced locally. We want to share and market our knowledge. Our business model is broader than just selling products."
