Economic mission to Kenya: Focus on water and sustainable agriculture and horticulture

This mission offers a unique opportunity to learn about Kenya’s thriving market, a leading growth economy in Africa that has grown by five percent annually (IMF). Kenya is a logistical hub for East Africa and seeks sustainable solutions for challenges such as food security, climate-resilient agriculture, soil health, and effective water management.

The Netherlands is already a key trade and investment partner for Kenya, and Dutch businesses are highly regarded for their expertise in these areas. This mission will help you connect with Kenyan stakeholders, gain market insights, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The programme includes seminars, site visits, networking events, and one-on-one matchmaking sessions. Visits will be in Nairobi, Naivasha, and Nakuru, and will give a comprehensive view of the opportunities in the region.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency is organising this mission in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi, Top Sector Horticulture & Starting Materials, Top Sector Agri & Food, and the Netherlands Water Partnership.

Dutch Royal couple visits Kenya

In parallel with the mission, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Maxima will pay a state visit to Kenya from 18 to 20 March 2025, at the invitation of President William Ruto. This visit highlights the strong ties and growing collaboration between the Netherlands and Kenya.

Bringing Dutch water expertise to the forefront

Kenya faces significant challenges in the field of water, particularly due to climate change. The country increasingly requires knowledge, innovative techniques, and funding for:

• better water efficiency across all sectors, especially in agriculture and horticulture;
• access to drinking water, sanitation, and (urban) water infrastructure;
• improvement of water quality and treatment of (waste)water;
• desalination;
• water treatment/production;
• integrated water resources management;
• restoration and protection of ecosystems.

Innovative financing is needed to address financial problems in Kenya’s water sector.

In Kenya, water technology and expertise are important for:

• agriculture and industry;
• economic growth;
• understanding climate challenges;
• improving public health;
• sustainable growth of urban areas, including Nature-Based Solutions.

The Netherlands has a strong reputation in the water sector. We are well-known in Kenya for sustainable, integrated water management and climate adaptation solutions. This aligns well with Kenya’s needs.

The Netherlands Water Partnership coordinates the water sector’s participation, bringing Dutch expertise to the forefront. 

The programme will enable participants to network with Kenyan businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders to foster meaningful connections. Tailored matchmaking and site visits will ensure a personal and impactful experience.

More information and registration

The mission will cost EUR 950 per organisation (for up to two participants), which includes the tailored programme and local support. Travel and accommodation costs are not included.

The deadline to register is 28 January 2025. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
