NWP is proud to host an incoming study visit delegation from the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, on 20 and 21 February. This visit is a direct result of our attendance and presentations at Asia Water, which took place in Kuala Lumpur last December.
The study visit will be led by the Honourable Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak (MPHLG).
During the study tour in the Netherlands, ideas will be gathered on the need to reconfigure the drainage system in the Sibu area with a more nuanced approach. In addition, the Netherlands will be highlighted as a living example in the water sector for sustainable and effective water management against flooding, climate change adaptation, storm-water management, and improved quality of life.
The study visit will provide engagement opportunities with Dutch ministries, government agencies and municipalities dealing with water resources management. Technical tours to relevant projects will also be arranged. The study visit consists of 25 delegates, including officials from the Federal and local Ministries and other related agencies.
The objectives of the study visit are:
To explore smart, holistic and liveable city solutions that utilise synergies between various intelligent systems, adapting to a changing climate.
To study the urban renewal planning and design in low lying areas or peatlands which is similar to Bukit Assek redevelopment project in Sibu.
To acquire knowledge on the storm-water management particularly in the peatlands and low-lying areas and how best to take advantage of the water bodies and convert it into an integrated mixed development incorporating eco-tourism, transit-oriented development, etc.
The expected outcomes of the study visit are as follows:
Comprehensive Master Plan for Flood Mitigation and Storm-water Management for greater Sibu.
An outline of the development strategy for greater Sibu.
The development of a storm-water management plan for Bukit Assek.
