Water related initiatives in Brazil
A lot is happening in the area of quality and sanitation in Brazil. Currently only 50% of Brazil's 200 million inhabitants has access to proper sanitation and sewage, and 35 million don't have access to drinking water. In the state of São Paulo, the State Government has devised a plan to clean up the Pinheiros River. It is investing the equivalent of EUR 235 million in the ‘Novo Rio Pinheiros’ (New Pinheiros River) initiative which will benefit about three million people by improving their water and sanitation services.
How can Dutch expertise in the fields of water and sanitation contribute to Brazil’s goal to improve the current situation? And how can a more integral approach towards spatial planning and urban development, combined with improved water quality, bring a higher quality of life and public health to the residents of Sao Paulo? Furthermore, key considerations are what the opportunities are for the Dutch water sector in this changing planning, water and sanitation landscape in Brazil, especially in the state and city of São Paulo? What are the main areas where assistance is needed?
On 19 May the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in São Paulo, with support from the State Government of São Paulo, will host a webinar to answer these questions. Opportunities around the Novo Rio Pinheiros project will be addressed..
Webinar on the Dutch water sector and Novo Rio Pinheiros
The objective of this webinar is to explore the interest of the Dutch water sector in the state of São Paulo, and to provide insight into the current state of project development for the Novo Rio Pinheiros project and explore possible added value in collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The webinar will cover the following topics:
- An impression of the local context.
- An update on the Novo Rio Pinheiros initiative.
- An overview of the initiative’s short, medium, and long term objectives in the essential areas of resilient urban development, water quality in a large metropolitan region and environmental conservation.
- The development of network relationships with the major contracting agencies involved.
- An impression of the Dutch experience and expertise in this field for the São Paulo counterparts.
