Milestones and memories: NWP's 25 year journey
In celebration of NWP’s 25th anniversary, we sat down with its former Managing Directors to reflect on pivotal moments in the organisation’s journey. We spoke with Jeroen van der Sommen, the first Managing Director; Lennart Silvis, who succeeded him; and Bianca Nijhof, who led the organisation from 2019 to 2022. We conclude our reflections with insights from our current Managing Director, Rick Elmendorp.
Next to that, NWP interviewed several members, recognising that we could not have achieved this milestone without their support - many of whom have been with us since the very beginning. In line with the theme Envision the Evolution of the International Water Sector, these interviews will highlight their connection with NWP and their vision for the Dutch water sector.
Jeroen Van der Sommen
Jeroen van der Sommen, the first Managing Director, experienced many foundational milestones, such as welcoming new members, addressing the sector on various platforms, and initiating relationships with the Dutch Government, embassies, and consulates to explore water-related opportunities abroad.
Lennart Silvis
Lennart Silvis, who succeeded him and led NWP from 2011 to 2018, oversaw a transformative period for the organisation, playing a crucial role in expanding NWP’s international reach and forging partnerships that have delivered impactful water solutions globally.
Bianca Nijhof
Bianca Nijhof, Managing Director from 2019 to 2022, shared insights about the significant developments that occurred during her leadership. Under her guidance, NWP made considerable progress in strengthening the Water-Energy-Food Nexus. However, her tenure was not without its challenges, as she also had to navigate the complexities brought on by a global pandemic.
Rick Elmendorp
Rick Elmendorp, Managing Director from 2023 to the present, reflects on his journey with the organisation. Aligned with the theme of NWP’s 25th anniversary, 'Envisioning the Evolution of the International Water Sector', he also looks ahead.
