Webinar series
Watch recordingsLatin America enjoys a relative abundance in freshwater sources. Nevertheless, the region experiences various water-related challenges, from ensuring access to water and sanitation in highly urbanised, rural, or remote environments, to improving efficiency of water use, flood protection and climate adaptation.
Demand for water is expected to increase through population growth and increasing living standards, while climate change is exacerbating the risks of both droughts and floods. Meanwhile, technological progress, such as digitalisation, provides new opportunities to tackle these challenges and contribute to improvements in the water sector.
With these developments in mind, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) hosted the third edition of its webinar series:'Advancing solutions for water-related challenges in Latin America together' in 2022, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, and ROM Utrecht Region – the regional development agency of Utrecht region. The 2022 series consists of two webinars and is a follow-up to the successful webinar series of 2020 and 2021 which connected Latin American and Dutch experts on topics such as resilience, water quality, the circular economy, water governance, nature-based solutions and water for agriculture.
The 2022 series delves more deeply into the topic of small-scale water and wastewater treatment as well as introduce the theme of digitalisation in the water sector. These topics are considered highly relevant in today’s market and for society’s needs. For example, sewage treatment coverage is lagging behind in Latin America, given the region’s levels of income and urbanisation.
The ‘Advancing solutions for water-related challenges in Latin America together’ webinar series aims to inspire, share knowledge and good practices, and connect Dutch and Latin American experts on the water challenges of today. The targeted audience includes Latin American water experts, urban and environmental planners, scientists, decision-makers, young professionals, and Dutch firms either working in or with business interests in the region.
