Sustainable adaptation to drought in the Aconcagua Valley
How to improve water use in the fruit sector and contribute to sustainable river basin management in the Chilean valley of Aconcagua? This question will be answered in a four-part webinar hosted by the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), under the framework of the Partners for Water Programme. This series is an initiative of a Dutch and Chilean alliance of public and private parties, working together to support the agricultural sector in adaptation to increasing drought in the Aconcagua valley. The alliance forms a platform to match Chilean action and knowledge to the international value chains and to Dutch innovations in water and agriculture.

In the webinar series, which are planned from May to August, we will explore the European demand for sustainable products, while looking at the main needs of producers in Aconcagua for improving irrigation and farming practices at the river basin level.
The four sessions aim to exchange knowledge and expertise on:
- water management for agriculture; and,
- sustainable practices and innovative technologies developed by Dutch and Chilean organisations to cope with drought and increase best practices for agricultural producers in the Aconcagua valley.
The webinar series will start with posing the need for a sustainable production and introducing the main drivers for sustainable agriculture. The series will then continue with sharing innovative solutions towards the digitalisation of agriculture and technological applications for soil and water management. Once knowing the needs, drivers and strategies for sustainability, the series will show the interventions applied and planned under the framework of the Dutch – Chilean Aconcagua Alliance. Finally, the series will discuss different initiatives such as water retention, aquifer management and wastewater treatment practices for Chilean contexts.
Audience: Dutch and Chilean water and agriculture experts and local and regional government representatives.

Adaptación sostenible a la sequía en el valle de Aconcagua
¿Cómo mejorar el uso del agua en el sector frutícola y contribuir al manejo sustentable de las cuencas hidrográficas en el valle chileno de Aconcagua? Esta pregunta se responderá en una serie de seminarios virtuales compuesto por cuatro sesiones organizado por la Asociación del Agua de los Países Bajos (NWP). Esta serie es una iniciativa de una alianza entre actores públicos y privados de Chile y Países Bajos, que trabajan juntos para apoyar al sector agrícola en la adaptación a la creciente sequía en el valle del Aconcagua. La alianza forma una plataforma para unir la acción y el conocimiento de Chile con las cadenas de valor internacionales y con las innovaciones holandesas en agua y agricultura. Dicha serie tendrá lugar de mayo a agosto.
Los cuatro seminarios tendrán como objetivo compartir conocimiento y experiencias en:
- gestión del agua para la agricultura y,
- prácticas sostenibles y tecnologías innovadoras desarrolladas por organizaciones chilenas y neerlandesas para combatir las sequías y fomentar buenas prácticas entre los productores agrícolas en el valle de la Aconcagua.
La serie de seminarios digitales empezará presentando la necesidad de una producción sostenible e introduciendo las claves esenciales para alcanzar una agricultura sostenible. La serie continuará compartiendo soluciones innovadoras para la digitalización de la agricultura, así como aplicaciones tecnológicas para el manejo del suelo y del agua. Tras conocer las necesidades, claves y estrategias hacia la sostenibilidad, la serie dará a conocer las intervenciones ya aplicadas o planeadas por la Alianza Chileno-Holandesa Aconcagua. Finalmente, la serie abordará diferentes iniciativas tales como la retención del agua, el manejo de acuíferos y el tratamiento del agua residual en el contexto chileno.
Público: expertos de los sectores hídrico y agrícola holandés y chileno, así como representantes de gobiernos locales y regionales.
