Towards saline-resilient farming in Mozambique

The MoSARP project aims to address salinity challenges in an integrated manner, bringing together Mozambican and international expertise in salinity and agroforestry to jointly develop a roadmap for Saline Agriculture at both field and institutional levels, tailored to the Mozambican context. Key achievements include knowledge exchange through webinars and workshops, the establishment of field pilots to test adaptive techniques, and the development of an integrated training module to embed Saline Agriculture in educational programmes.

Collaboration between Mozambican and international experts

MoSARP focuses on fostering new collaborations and leveraging local and international knowledge to address the salinity management challenges prevalent in Mozambique. The project adopted a phased strategy, combining virtual and in-person exchanges, field pilot tests, and documenting and disseminating results. The consortium includes key Saline Agriculture actors from Mozambique (IIAM, ABIODES, UEM), who shared local expertise, established research infrastructure, and suggested field research locations essential for the practical aspects of MoSARP. MoSARP successfully fostered collaboration between Mozambican and international experts to address soil salinity challenges through innovative saline agriculture and agroforestry practices.

Saline Water & Food Systems

Saline Water & Food Systems (SW&FS) is a multi-stakeholder partnership that stimulates collaboration between the Dutch water and agrifood sectors to address the challenge of salinity in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). The partnership consists of knowledge institutes, diverse members of the business community such as innovative SMEs, and experts operating on the ground. It is supported by the Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality.
