Key Visual Ethiopia

With a history of crop failures and civil wars in the 1980s, Ethiopia is still developing its agricultural and private sectors. Water infrastructure is lacking in areas and groundwater extraction for agriculture and drinking water is a relatively recent development. Investment in infrastructure may be necessary, but so is the further development of water management.

Collaboration

In Ethiopia itself, the Embassy of the Netherlands’ food security policy has identified water as an important issue. The Ethiopian and Dutch water sector mainly collaborate on water governance and irrigation.

Joining Forces

As part of the Water Support Programme, NWP brings together Dutch organisations with a range of expertise to join forces on tenders, international projects and local programmes and initiatives. Furthermore, the Water Support Programme’s Strategic Adviser for Water is helping define the Programme’s multi-year strategic policy plan and acts as a sounding board for the water specialist at the Embassy.
