South Sudan

Country focus
South Sudan key visual

South Sudan’s annual rainfall may be high, but it is concentrated at certain parts of the year. This causes both flooding and drought. It has several rivers that are permanently water-bearing, some of which have potential for riverine development. Water management has been high on the political agenda since South Sudan became independent.

Collaboration

South Sudan is a focus country of the Government of The Netherlands’ Water Support Programme. The Programme’s priority is to develop the water sector in South Sudan and to stimulate cooperation with the Dutch private sector. The Netherlands Embassy in South Sudan is informed by NWP on opportunities of Dutch participation in South Sudan. NWP organises the Water Support Programme’s South Sudan Country Platform to inform the Netherlands water sector on developments in South Sudan. For more information, please contact Sabrina.
